MILITARY TITLE/REGISTRATION
The vehicle paper work needs to show the Military person as the legal owner.
If you are renewing a Kansas license plate, in person, you will need:
A renewal form or last year’s registration, insurance information, copy of orders, copy of LES, your Military ID card and military tax exemption form(available at our office and on our web site here). If you are a Kansas resident, a new law exempts you from paying taxes on up to 2 vehicles regardless of where the motor vehicles are maintained or where you are stationed.
If you are renewing a Kansas license plate, by mail, you will need:
A signed renewal form or copy of last year’s registration and signature form, insurance information, copy of orders, copy of LES, copy of Military ID card, military tax exemption form(get one here). Please call or email our office if you have any questions about the registration fee.
If you are registering a newly purchased new vehicle, in person, you will need:
A properly signed over Certificate of Origin, Odometer form, sales invoice or sales tax receipt, proof of insurance, copy of orders and LES, your Military ID card and military tax exemption form(available at our office and on our web site). For information on fees, please contact our office.
If you are registering, a newly purchased used vehicle, in person, you will need:
A properly assigned title, bill of sale, sales invoice or sales tax receipt, VIN inspection if it has an out of state title(see www.kansastreasurers.org/ for list of inspections stations), proof of insurance, copy of orders and LES, your Military ID card, and military tax exemption. If you are registering a vehicle currently registered in another state, in person, you will need:
The original title, (if the lien holder has the title, they need to fax a copy to our office, fax number is 913-684-0436 ), current registration, VIN inspection, proof of insurance, copy of orders and LES, your Military ID card, and military tax exemption.
If you are registering a vehicle currently registered overseas, in person, you will need:
The overseas registration, import documents, state side title if ever registered state side, VIN inspection, proof of insurance, copy of orders and LES, your Military ID card, and military tax exemption. If purchased and registered less than 6 months from registration in Kansas , a sales use tax will be due.
