The survey department indexes, maintains, and provides copies of survey related information including: General Land Office (GLO) records, references for United States Public Land Survey System (USPLSS) monuments, platted subdivisions, County Surveyor’s Records and surveys performed by private surveyors, and a growing collection of surveying reference books. Our records include: GLO notes and plats, approximately 2700 County Surveyor’s Records, over 3200 surveys performed by private surveyors, and more than 1000 platted subdivisions. These records encompass all of the nearly 500 sections of land in Leavenworth County.
The Leavenworth County Survey Department reviews subdivision plats, boundary surveys, road project plans, and other documents to maintain a certain minimum standard. This quality assurance process helps to protect citizens from discrepancies that might result in costly and time-consuming litigation over boundary disputes.
This department performs geodetic surveying services to provide ground control points. The monuments established during geodetic surveys can be used as the basis for correlating surveys, platted subdivisions, and other documents related to ownership rights. The county Geographic Information System (GIS) is based on this system, and is used by many county agencies including: Public Works, Planning and Zoning, Sheriff’s Department, Emergency Management, EMS, Appraiser’s Office, and others. Copies of published geodetic control information may be obtained from this office.
