JCAB INFORMATION |
The First Judicial District Juvenile Corrections Advisory Board is made up of various professionals and volunteers whose collective mission is to help oversee Juvenile Justice Reform programs operating in Atchison and Leavenworth. For a list of current JD1 JCAB Membership, click here.
All proceedings of JCAB and committees are open to the public. Discussion and votes are recorded and become matters of public record. (K.S.A. 75-7045(b.))
JCAB assists the Board of Leavenworth County Commission in overseeing many JJA grant-funded programs. For more information about current programs, please explore the menu tabs from JJA Welcome Page.
JD1 JCAB is a seventeen-member board, with members appointed from both Atchison and Leavenworth counties. Appointments to JCAB are made by various governing bodies to ensure diverse community participation. Kansas statutes and local agreement are specific in member representation and appointing authority.
The Board of Leavenworth County Commission, as our designated Administrative County, is responsible for ensuring the statutory compliance of JCAB, pursuant to K.S.A. 75-7044 et seq.
JD1 JCAB generally meets four times a year in alternating Atchison and Leavenworth locations. Meetings are usually held on weekdays; from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Various working committees within our district are also assigned to JCAB matters and meet more frequently. JCAB majority determines meeting schedules.
No special training is needed to apply for community at-large positions. The stewardship of youth justice and prevention programs depends upon people willing to be involved in making decisions about the use of public funds and resources.
