MARRIAGE LICENSE INFORMATION: |
IF THE ORIGINAL MARRIAGE LICENSE HAS BEEN FORWARDED TO KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT – VITAL STATISTICS IN TOPEKA, YOU WILL HAVE TO OBTAIN CERTIFIED COPIES FROM K.D.H.E. VITAL STATS.
IF THE ORIGINAL MARRIAGE LICENSE HAS NOT BEEN FORWARDED TO KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT – VITAL STATISTICS, YOU MAY OBTAIN A CERTIFIED COPY OF THE ORIGINAL MARRIAGE LICENSE HERE IF THE ORIGINAL MARRIAGE LICENSE WAS PURCHASED HERE.
Application for marriage license must be completed by either person at the office of Clerk of the District Court. There is a THREE (3) day waiting period from application date till the marriage license may be picked up.
Either person may pick up the marriage license between the hours of8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.
The marriage license will expire SIX (6) months from date of issuance.
A WORKSHEET is issued when application is made. ALL information must be completed and returned upon picking up the marriage license.
THE MARRIAGE LICENSE FEE IS FIFTY ($50) DOLLARS. CASH ONLY ! NO CHECKS!!!!
After the ceremony, the ORIGINAL LICENSE is returned to the Clerk of the District Court for recording, then forwarded to the DEPARTMENT OF VITAL STATISTICS in Topeka, Kansas, where is kept permanently. The DUPLICATE copy issued is for the bride and groom to keep. To obtain a certified copy of your marriage license you may apply to the Department of Vital Statistics in Topeka, or obtained from the Clerk of the District Court’s office where the marriage license was PURCHASED. A CERTIFIED Copy from this Clerk’s office costs $1.25. Upon requesting and obtaining said copy, a photo identification must be presented.
If the couple request wedding performed by a judge, those ceremonies are conducted every Wednesday at 5:00, by appointment. There is a $40 CASH fee for the judge.
MINORS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN, AND APPLICATION MUST BE APPROVED BY THE JUDGE.
